About
Taskforge is a meeting place for online collaborators of non-digital products. It’s not as oxymoronic as it may seem. The online collaboration is naturally digital but is intended to result in various kinds of physical, non-digital objects - whatever you can come up with and get other people involved in.
It’s inspired by free software/open source and Creative Commons principles but not limited to programming and digital distribution. Software certainly is different to, say, sofas. However, if we find a way to apply these principles to the non-digital, there would be some obvious benefits:
Sharing
Have you ever heard that Chinese proverb about eggs and ideas? Well, it’s true. You having one egg and me having one egg will leave us with still having one egg each after sharing. You having one idea and me having one idea will leave us with both having two ideas after sharing…
Inspiration
…and there’s more to it: allowing others to affect your ideas will take it to place you wouldn’t have thought of. It might not always be to your liking, other times it will. In the first case you haven’t lost anything, in the second case you’ve won a lot because one idea led to multiple.
Money
Collaborating on digital products and non-digital products is fundamentally different because in the case of the latter, you cannot just make a copy and have one each. This is why Taskforge will support optional donations between collaborators of the different cycles of a product. Think of it as a company where management, designers, and customers all are the same people.
